And You Wonder Why We Make Fun of the Government...

Posted by Arashi at 11:26 PM on October 28, 2003.

Dumb Laws

This site is hilarious. Among the gems:

~In Illinois, the English language is not to be spoken. Better brush up on my Spanish before I go there for Christmas.
~In South Carolina, every adult male must bring a rifle to church on Sunday in order to ward off Indian attacks. And this one hasn't been repealed yet.
~In Alabama, boogers may not be flicked into the wind.
~In Kansas, rabbits may not be shot from motorboats. Do they even have large bodies of water in Kansas?
~In Indiana, the value of Pi is 3.2, and not 3.1415.

And that's just the surface.

Her Laziness Actually Writes

Posted by Arashi at 06:39 PM on October 18, 2003.

Yes, yes. Churri has been neglecting her blog again.

Rehearsals have started for a show - actually a one-act part of three such shows - that I'm in. It's called This is A Test, written by Christopher Durang. It's an amusing little absurdist comedy. I'm the Teacher, and therefore the voice of supreme authority. You can just hear the evil chuckling, can't you? The rehearsal time is absurdly short, as is always the case with this director, also my theater teacher. (He's assigned us a goodly amount of work after the honeymoon ended. I will soon need to take up residence in my local library's play section.) The play should run smoothly once we master the game being played throughout. And I do get to see my friends from "Little Shop" again.

A Talk of Many Things

Posted by Arashi at 10:40 PM on September 30, 2003.

Never, ever press the F5 key. Cursed thing deleted my painstakingly typed entry.

In any case, my Internet is restored. I knew all along 'twas the router, but no. Churri's computer must have a virus.

I have recently added a new addiction to my already large list: Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I started watching in roughly the middle of Season Four at the urging of a friend. (In reruns on FX, as I have been telling many who protest that "it was cancelled!" Really, it's the only show I watch on that channel. Married with Children? Ugh.) I saw the beginning of the season later, but I happened to watch an episode called "Hush". It was, quite simply, brilliant. After that, I was hooked, as was my sister, now a Spike devotee. (Don't ask me where she found the second season. I'm stil getting the first for my birthday.) The way the series blended horror/drama and comedy, the excellent characters and acting, the lovely intricacies of the universe hooked me. Ah, yes, the characters. I love Spike. Even when he's being unsavory, he's still magnificent in his attitude - always fun to watch, and hilarious to boot. And he's nicely fleshed out, too. Love how he grows to occasionally have these sweet moments. Willow, Anya, Giles and Dawn are faves as well.

I am very irked at my theater teacher. After attending an audition for a play he was directing, he told us he would call to let us know if we made it within two days. Then he goes on a honeymoon and won't be back until a day before rehearsals! Very frustrating.

Isabel and Internet

Posted by Arashi at 04:19 PM on September 20, 2003.

Well, the Internet on my computer went "kablooie!" for some reason. I'm actually typing this on my father's computer, and I should be using the dreaded home row. But as I am not currently in CIP, I defy the rules.

Isabel, oddly enough, had nothing to do with it. Though school was cancelled for two days, we were lucky enough to retain power. The street was pretty soggy, and the winds knocked down a few trees on my new block. Unlike Floyd a few years back, none blew into our yard, knocking down part of the fence and taking the asparagus plants down with it. It was too bad that the asparagus remained intact this hurricane, but good that we didn't have extensive property damage, though I was hoping for flooded streets to get that Venetian canal look. Some people actually did end up hauling out boats, and my friend's grandmother was forced to evacuate. But we got heavy winds and rains. And plenty of yardwork that needed to be done after the end of the storm.
